With all of their guests aware of the date change, the bride’s sister wanted to find a way to allow everyone to cheers the new couple from afar. One of my favorite ways they did this was to create a video of everyone sending in their love and heartfelt wishes for the newlywed couple! Maggie and Andy had no idea that this was planned and were absolutely delighted to watch it during their private reception in the comfort of Maggie’s childhood home.

After the wedding, I was able to assist Maggie and Andy in creating a stunning heirloom album that documented their day in printed form. We included photos from above-said video, as well as the rest of the celebration, and I like to think of guests visiting them in the future and getting to relive the day with them from beginning to end — while they may have not been able to attend in person, enjoying the album might just be the next best thing!

One of my favorite things about getting to create a professional, handmade album for my clients is that I know they will have a printed piece of their day to enjoy for generations to come. In this digital age, it’s easy to look at your online gallery and share it with friends and family without every really printing your photos. Sure, you may end up adding one or two to your walls, but time goes by quickly and before you know it, the images are only being showcased online and may pop up on your Timehop from year to year. But instead, I urge all couples to invest in an heirloom album that they can break out any time they want to relive this special day.

I absolutely love all the selections that Emily & Max made when creating their stunning album. They selected the cream silk fabric which is my favorite for wedding albums. I also love the gold foil printing for their names and dates; a nod to their gold details from the wedding day. While their Collection didn’t initially contain an album, after the wedding they decided that they wanted to make the investment in one of these beautiful pieces to commemorate the big day. After all, the two of them had just moved into a new home and weren’t exactly sure when they would find the time to design their own between all the house projects they had on their list!

This is one of the aspects I love most about being able to provide my clients with a wedding album — it ensures that they will have a gorgeous, professionally designed heirloom in their hands mere weeks after the wedding. Sarah and Mike were married this past September and had their album before Christmas!

Sarah selected a silk cover in the cream colorway for her album — this is one of my absolute favorites for weddings because there is just something so chic and wedding-esque about the color paired with the fabric. Not to mention how much I love the gold embossed foil on the cover as well!  The silk does have a bit of a natural texture to it, but this is a great thing in my opinion as it’s less likely to show any snags or wear over the years. And, like all the albums I offer, it comes in a leather protective case to ensure safe keeping.

But, as we all know, 2020 simply forced us to slow down and I’ve been getting back into the swing of showcasing client albums whenever possible! I think it’s beneficial for my brides and grooms to be able to hop on the blog and see what different choices look like on an actual album rather than just a small swatch.

Emily and Paul selected an oxblood leather cover and I think it’s my first time ever seeing this option in person — it’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s the perfect blend of burgundy that is neither too red nor too purple. I love how their light and airy monument photos just pop against this rich hue that reminds me of a deep, red wine.

Like so many of my 2020 couples, Emily and Paul eloped with just their closest friends and family. My standard album includes 15 spreads/30 pages, and even with a smaller wedding, we had no trouble filling this from beginning to end. So smaller weddings, these work great for you too!

It may sound strange, but designing an album is such an intimate process. First, the client selects their favorite images and I create 15 spreads/30 pages that tell their story from beginning to end. It’s always my intention to use as many of their favorites as possible while creating a cohesive, appealing layout. They, of course, work with me over three rounds of revisions to get the album spreads exactly as they imagined.

Next, we work on the outside of the album. The clients let me know what wording and what image they would like on the cover. I’ve had clients forgo one or the other, or create something entirely unique to themselves such a custom embossing.

Finally, we select the fabric, which, I think is just as important as designing the spreads. The album company I work with is exclusive to professional photographers and offers choices of leather, linen, or silk which many color choices for each. The color, in my opinion, is best when it’s a classic neutral that will never go out of style, but also still matches the overall colors from the wedding day. For example, Kristina selected this Dove Grey  which paired nicely with the soft blue hues of her bridesmaid’s dresses. And as they had an elegant, upscale DC wedding, the silk fabric was the perfect choice.

It’s always such a joy to work with my clients on designing an heirloom that they will enjoying for generations to come and this one was certainly no exception!

Tayler and Kunal were one of my three couples in 2019 that did not have an album in their Collection, but Tayler’s sweet mom, Ainsley, reached out to me a few weeks back about putting one together for their first anniversary and I couldn’t have been more excited to get started. Their Meridian House wedding in Washington, DC was one of the perfect days from beginning to end. I’ll always love their outdoor ceremony within in the Linden Grove and I adored their extended cocktail hour reception, so getting to relive this day through album creation was nothing short of a joy. Ainsley let Tayler in on the surprise so we could collaborate on the design and the end result is nothing short of stunning. I love how they incorporated their custom monogram design on the cover of the album, embossed in gold foil, rather than adding just the traditional cover image. And coming in at 20 pages, we were able to fully tell the story of their full day.

So when my amazing and incredible album company introduced silk album cover options in early 2018 as well, I shared them with my clients right away. While I design the album draft, my clients get full control over fabric type, color, cover image, text, and even final layout, so I wanted to them to know all the options available. Orders for these have been rolling in (I even got one myself for personal images!) and since I’ve shared tons of the leather and linen options in the past, I  figured it was time to show you what the silk cover looks like as well! Just like the leather and linen, these are still professional, layflat albums that have super thick pages unlike anything I’ve ever seen on the consumer market. And you absolutely still get an inset cover photos and text embossing on underneath.

One big difference however, is the addition of foil color choices for the cover text embossing. You can still blind emboss (no color, just imprinted into the fabric), but now can also choose from silver, gold, or black which can really add a bit of a pop to certain colors (like on the ivory below). These albums still come with the traditional black, leather case for protective storage, but you can also upgrade to a matching silk case if you prefer!

I love nothing more than having the opportunity to create an album for my couples for many reasons. First, it allows me to continue working with them past the day I deliver their images which is always a special treat! But even more, it allows me to know for sure that they have printed their photos are enjoying them the way they were meant to be viewed! As a shoot and share photographer, my clients are given the printing rights to their images which means they have access to all the digital files to order prints, canvases, albums – heck, even t-shirts or coffee mugs – as they wish. But that means I also cannot guarantee they are ever taken off the computer. An album is, hands down, the best way to ensure you have these memories available to share with the many generations to come. And Stephanie’s choice of a classic black leather is one that will certainly stand the test of time. 

In all respects, Stephanie and Robert are truly an ALP legacy couple and I continue to feel so lucky to have captured numerous milestones for them — I can only hope to continue capturing the love that is shared between these two incredible people in their many anniversaries to come!

Parent albums are one of the best ways to thank your parents for being part of your wedding day – not to mention an easy idea, as well! I mean, think about it, after the big day, besides you and your new husband or wife, the people who are most excited about seeing your images are your parents! Most of them have supported you throughout your entire life and have waited anxiously for this day. So many parents pour themselves into your wedding as if it was their own, providing anything and everything from financial assistance to a hand with all those DIY projects and set up. Often we take this help for granted but it doesn’t have to be that way! An heirloom album is such a thoughtful and meaningful way to say thank you to the people who love us most. I promise – they will not be expecting it and you will absolutely blow them away! Even if it isn’t exactly post-wedding – say you wait until their next birthday or Christmas – they will just be over the moon when they open it and will cherish the album forever. I can almost guarantee it will its way to the center of their coffee table so they can display it for family and friends when they visit. Rob and I gifted albums to both of our parents and that’s where theirs ended up!

I think it pretty much goes without saying that every couple is so different. Their wedding alone is a huge reflection of that and I feel like their wedding album should express that as well. Aimee and Tyler were a very classic couple. From her elegant, silk gown to his dapper, black tuxedo, that was clear the moment I arrived. Type A Society designed their reception with long reception tables and it was perfect for the space at their venue. I loved the old literature and simple bud vases that lined the centers of each, immediately drawing in your eyes. And their bookmark name cards accented with light calligraphy was such a pretty touch; all of these small details included in their album! 

These two chose to go with the linen option in “steel” and I think it perfectly complemented their color palette. Their March wedding day was overcast with the typical spring showers and I love how the hint of blue in this linen choice is really picked up by that on the cover image. In spite of the rain, they were both up for getting some incredible portraits which we of course highlighted in the album as well! I think my favorite thing about these heirlooms is that anyone can pick up this book and feel as if they were present on the couple’s wedding day. Years from now, when their children want to know what the day was like, they can simply sit down together over a cup of hot cocoa to look back and remember. At least that’s how I like to see it!

While I traditionally include a linen album in one of my Wedding Collections, Kelly decided to upgrade to a luxurious, black calf album that perfectly complemented her wedding day. Don’t get me wrong, linen is an absolutely stunning choice that is available in so many lovely colors, but certain weddings seem to show better against the leather; Kelly and Tom’s blush, crimson, and gold wedding was definitely one of those exceptions! 

Online trends and social media will quickly come and go, but Kelly & Tom’s perfect December wedding is now forever available to their future children and grandchildren via this stunning leather Legacy Wedding Album! I cannot recommend enough investing in one of these beautiful heirlooms — my husband and I did after our Potomac Point Winery wedding and it’s graced our coffee table ever since! Another great thing about being in NC in December was the weather! It was only a week before Christmas and Claire was able to walk the entire campus in her strapless wedding gown without a worry; much opposed to the frigid temperatures we were experiencing in DC only a few days before. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Washington, DC wedding photographer as we have the luxury of so many beautiful monuments and landscapes — but I don’t mind a destination down south in the colder months of the year!

A few weeks after their wedding and as life returned to normal, Claire and Matt decided that a Legacy Wedding Album would be the perfect addition to their new home. Their choice of navy top grain leather perfectly complemented her wintry color scheme and highlighted the day in a classic, timeless manner. We even had to add a few extra spreads to adequately cover all the amazing details organized by her talented planner! Claire chose a romantic couples portrait for their cover image which will immediately transport them to the emotions of the day. I absolutely love this gorgeous heirloom we created for Matt and Claire to enjoy for the rest of their lives!
