Like so many of my 2020 couples, Emily and Max’s DAR Constitution Hall wedding was postponed until they could have a proper celebration this year. It would be an understatement to say it’s been difficult to be a Washington, DC wedding photographer over the past eighteen months or so; my heart has ached for all these amazing couples who had to wait to have their special day with one another and I’ve truly missed getting to do what I love most.

Luckily for this pair, they didn’t have to wait to say “I do”. Upon postponement, Emily and Max went ahead with their nuptials and tied the knot amongst their families in a private ceremony on what would’ve been their wedding date last year. On their one year anniversary this July, they celebrated with a vow renewal at Daughters of the American Revolution, exactly as they always imagined it. Their ceremony took place on the Portico, overlooking the Washington Monument on a perfectly sunny day. It was followed by a cocktail hour outdoors, complete with a refreshing limoncello for all guests to enjoy. Brielle Davis Events designed the stunning reception in the gorgeous O’Byrne Gallery where guests dined and listened to toasts. Dancing resumed on the Portico outdoors, beneath the setting sun.

To top it all off, it was the most gorgeous July day in the District that I can remember. Washington, DC is famously known as a swamp, due to its unbearable heat and humidity in some of the hotter months. Fortunately, none of that was an issue for us as we enjoyed a day in the 80’s with a light breeze. Ironically, in some twist of beautiful fate, Emily told me that they experienced nearly identical weather last year on their anniversary date. They couldn’t believe their luck and were a bit disappointed that it wasn’t their actual wedding day… never imagining they would get to lucky twice!

I’m so grateful to have been a small part of this celebration, two years in the making!
