Even on a cloudy day, sunrise engagement sessions at the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool are nothing short of stunning. For my morning sessions, I check the weather the night before and, once again, first thing in the morning. The night before Audrey and Michael’s session, the forecast was calling for overcast skies but no chance of rain. By morning, that had completely changed (see what I mean in my Weather Policy!? There is almost NO point in looking more than a few hours in advance). Chances were hovering at 50/50 and we made the call to go for it! The result? A few light drops of rain, but an otherwise perfect morning! And the threat of showers kept most of the crowds away, giving us even more space to ourselves than normal.
The only group we did see at the monuments that AM was a large running club and ROTC team. Luckily, Audrey and Michael are avid runners themselves and only felt drawn to be out there with them! Ironically, it was on a in that these two were engaged! The often go running with their sweet dog, Sandy, so it didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary to Audrey that day when they left their apartment. As they neared the Washington Monument, Michael came to a stop to ask Audrey to be his wife — with Sandy’s approval, of course :)
They will be getting married next summer outside of a Portland where Audrey grew up. As Michael’s family is from Seattle (how crazy that two west coasters met at random in NYC!?), it won’t be a far trek for them either.
Enjoy a peek into their overcast morning engagement session at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC!
