As a Washington, DC wedding photographer, I’ve been so lucky to refine my niche and work with the exact type of lovely clients that I have always dreamed of. Often times, I feel like I am getting to photograph weddings that would be exactly what I would design for myself if I was getting married today.
With refining my style, one of the things I don’t often get to do is shoot outside my box — and for my client work, I am 100% okay with that! They are hiring me for a reason and it is my express desire and job to fill that for them! I rarely change my style or incorporate trends into my work because I want my clients to always have timeless imagery to match their timeless weddings.
That all being said, sometimes I DO still enjoy shooting outside my box just for me. It’s an opportunity to get my creative juices flowing and do something totally different than my paid work.
It’s for that exact reason that I was so excited to document this editorial at Salubria. It’s a hauntingly beautiful historic venue in the countryside of Virginia, about an hour from Washington, DC. The home is full of textures and feels as if old stories are oozing from its walls. The coordinator planned vintage touches and rich colors throughout the details to complement the organic nature of the home. I enjoyed capturing the dark interior rooms against the light-filled rolling hills outdoors.
