Megan and Marlan’s Lincoln Memorial engagement session in Washington, DC was kicked off by the most stunning sunrise over the Reflecting Pool. There had been a wild rain storm the night before; in its wake remained a few lingering clouds that dappled the sky in the morning, making some of their first few images my absolute favorites.

These two decided to do a classic DC engagement session as a nod to their new home. Megan just finished up law school in Georgetown (she was actually awaiting the results of her bar exam the week of our shoot, so fingers crossed for her!) and Marlan moved here after graduating from law school in Boston a few years prior.

Ironically, Washington, DC isn’t where this sweet couple first met. The both attended Alabama for undergrad and ran in the same friend group. Megan was dating someone else at the time, so their relationship was strictly friends. It wasn’t until after they graduated that Megan popped up on Marlan’s social media feed and he noticed she no longer had a boyfriend. Her asked her out for a “catch up” meeting at a coffee shop that quickly turned into what would be known as their first date.

This past August, they returned to that fateful coffee shop. It was in that very spot that Marlan asked Megan to marry him, so it will now be the location of both their first date and their proposal. It’s clearly a place that they will treasure for years to come.

Megan and Marlan are set be married next October at the Dumbarton House in Washington, DC. They thought about heading back to Alabama for the big day, but ultimately decided that planning would be easier if they were close by. Now they are excited to introduce their Southern families all the District has to offer!
