Just before COVID really started affecting the country, I photographed a gorgeous Washington, DC Cherry Blossom engagement session at the iconic Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin. That was in early March (thank goodness for the warmer temperatures this winter, or we likely would’ve completely missed peak bloom with the shutdown) and I stopped photographing entirely after that for weeks. So you can imagine my delight when Tabitha from Roberts & Co. Events reached out about collaborating on a small, socially-smart shoot — I couldn’t say yes fast enough!
Using all the same design elements — plates, florals, candles, cakelettes, etc — and simply swapping out various linens and chairs, the team created three different looks that were each unique and could be targeted to different styles. There was a geometric linen complete with blue, art deco chairs that was perfect for a more contemporary couple. For the second look, the linen was then swapped for a simple, white cloth, but kept those stunning blue chairs which would suit a classic couple with a modern twist.
Finally, we swapped out the chairs for a traditional, wooden cafe chair which reminded me of a lovely afternoon in the park. It was my personal favorite look of the three different settings and the one I’ll be highlighting below, but be sure to check out the side by side of all three looks! I love the idea of being able to use the same, overall design elements and just changing a few items to make the look customized to any couple’s vision.
To bring the shoot full circle, Flourishing Penguin designed a gorgeous citrus-inspired invitation suite that complemented any of the looks!
