Valeria and John e-mailed me earlier this winter about the possibility of doing their engagement session during the peak bloom of the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. I had already booked one session, and limit myself to no more than two per year (as scheduling around peak bloom could be a part time job!), so I was excited to pencil them in!
These two met six years ago, almost to the day of our session!, on St. Patrick’s Day at a local bar in Adams Morgan. Valeria said they immediately hit it off and rather than him asking her questions about her uniquely beautiful name like others, he, instead, asked about her. They bonded over their love of music and took their first date just weeks later on a snowy winter’s day.
This past summer, John and Valeria took a trip back to Arizona to visit with her family. Being just past their five-year anniversary, they decided to spend a few days in Sedona alone to relax and take in the beautiful scenery. Together with two guides, they took a hike across the expansive rock formations of the region. Once they reached the highlight of their hike, John dropped to one knee in front of an epic view to ask Valeria to marry. And, as it turns out, those really weren’t guides with them on the trip, but professional photographers he had hired to capture the moment.
Valeria and John are to be married this August at another stunning backdrop, the Washington National Cathedral, here in DC. Afterwards, they will celebrate with friends and family at the gorgeous Hay-Adams Hotel overlooking the White House plaza. As you can probably tell from the images below, these two have impeccable style which, paired with the vision and execution of the fabulous Caroline Dutton Events, ensures this is going to be an absolute show stopper. Already looking forward to the warmer months of summer with them!
