The blog has been full of micro weddings and elopements over the past few weeks and I have to be honest, I kind of love it! Before COVID/2020/the year to end all years, I had captured a handful of these intimate weddings across the Washington, DC area. And while micro weddings have been around well before all of this started, their rise in popularity was bred out of necessity and itโs a trend that I hope sticks around long after we get back to normal (whatever that looks like!). Iโm always so honored to be part of our clientโs wedding days, but perhaps even more now so as the list of vendors and attendees is extremely limited.
Jennifer and Todd knew that they wanted to tie the knot this year, no matter how big or small. They opted for an intimate ceremony at the DC War Memorial, an off-the-beaten path monument between the two icons of the Lincoln and Washington Monuments. This was the spot where Todd asked Jennifer to be his wife, so it was only fitting to return to the very spot to say โI doโ. Jennifer, with the help of her amazing planner Aimee, of A. Griffin Events, thought through many beautiful details. Some of the highlights include a fun welcome box, complete with custom cookies from Sugar Rex and cakesicles from Buttercream Bakeshop, as well as a floral wall from Wander & Whimsy, and, of course, a COVID approved mask & sanitizing station. My favorite detail of all, however, was the vintage bicycle as another sweet nod to Toddโs proposal, for they were biking together on the Mall when he stopped at the DC War to pop the question.
ย With a first look at an empty Capitol, followed by a fun ride in an electric cart to the Lincoln for more portraits, we hit up some of the prettiest spots throughout the district. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and DC preparing for the March on Washington, it turned out to be nothing short of a perfect day!
