There are few things I love more than travel, so it was such a treat to photograph Lizzy & Andrew’s Whitby Castle wedding in Rye, NY this summer. It was the perfect time of year to be in upstate New York — all the trees were in full bloom, but as we were just off the coast outside of the city, we still had a nice breeze and relatively cool summer evening considering it was mid-July!
Coming from out of town, these two couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. We arrived at Lizzy’s parents home for getting ready photos and were treated like we were family the entire time. No request was too much (they let us move their gorgeous furniture all over the place!) and we were offered food and drink endlessly. I had previously met Lizzy last fall when she was in Washington, DC, so I already knew what a kind spirit she had, but meeting Andrew for the first time that day proved he was just the same. I snuck in portrait time with this sweet couple FOUR times throughout the day and neither one of the complained once; in fact, they welcomed pictures and let me get super creative post-ceremony back at the house where I ended up taking some of my all-time favorite photographs.
But the epic portraits were just a small part of this big day. From their personal Catholic ceremony at Lizzy’s childhood church to speech after speech singing their praises at the reception, it was clear that these two have had a positive impact on the lives of so many close to them. I was so honored to travel up to New York to capture their wedding day and can only hope they will agree to pack me for Tahiti next month :)
A huge thank you to these incredible vendors for making Lizzy & Andrew’s wedding amazing!
