I think that most folks would agree that Martha Stewart Weddings is one of the most influential resources for brides and grooms-to-be. It’s both a nation-wide publication (well, it WAS for a very long time!) and a wildly popular online blog that provides daily tips and inspiration. It’s not just a resource for couples, however, it’s also one for photographers, planners, florists, and all other industry vendors alike.  Martha, like in all facets of her business, sets the bar high for what can be featured and is often very exclusive. 

So when I first received an e-mail from one of their editors asking to use an image from a shoot I did a few years ago for an Oatlands wedding, I was more than eager to say yes! A few weeks went by and I hadn’t come across the article, so I figured it ended up not being published and didn’t think much of it. Well, fast forward to this week and I was on their site and what did I see but an article about “20 Unique Wedding Cake Designs”. I started flipping through the gallery and was beyond excited to see my image as part of their collection among many esteemed photographers whom I respect and admire. 

This cake was originally designed for a French-inspired wedding shoot and is, hands down, one of the most unique that I have ever had the opportunity to photograph in all my years as a Washington, DC wedding photographer. The actual cake was created by Gateau Bakery out of Warrenton, VA — Lora is a pastry genius, so I knew she would be perfect for this idea! She pulled it off flawlessly, of course!
