It’s no secret that the cherry blossoms in Washington DC are finicky, to say the least. Peak bloom can vary anywhere from the last week in March until mid April, so trying to predict the exact date for a cherry blossom engagement session months in advance is often futile. Predictions from the National Parks Service and local weather teams very in the preceding weeks, so I usually recommend to all my couples that you have to have a flexible schedule to be sure to catch them in their glory. Unfortunately for Lauren & Matt, given their lines of work, that wasn’t necessarily a possibility. Matt often needs to travel during the week, so given that their schedules were set in stone, their session date was going to hold regardless of whether or not the blooms appeared.
By some miracle, this sweet couple not only got blooms for their cherry blossom engagement session at the Tidal Basin, but they landed right on the peak day of the entire season! Everything perfectly aligned and their session was absolutely stunning. It seems, however, that these two are no stranger to fate if you know how they met. Years ago, at a tiny hole in the wall bar in DC, they were each spending the night out with their respective group of friends. By total chance, they ended up at the same bar and Matt couldn’t help but go and talk to Lauren when he saw her there. They didn’t have any friends in common and had never met before; he simply couldn’t take his eyes off of her and just wanted to chat. I love that as they recounted the story, they both called it the “old fashioned way” of dating which couldn’t be more true!
While I’m SO incredibly bummed to miss the opportunity to celebrate their big day with these two, I absolutely cannot wait to see photos! If her stunning Marchesa Notte dress from our engagement session was any indication, it’s going to be full of gorgeous style and timeless details. Lauren & Matt, I’m so happy everything fell into place — not just with cherry blossom timing, but for us as well! It’s been a pleasure working with the two of you and I can’t wait for our warm weather redo at the monuments sometime in the future!
