It’s no secret that I love working at the monuments in Washington, DC! I photograph an engagement session there multiple times each month and truly — I never get sick of it! The atmosphere is different on each and every occasion — as you’ll never be able to predict the weather, amount of tourists, other photoshoots, etc, so it’s kind of like a bit of surprise to see what you’ll arrive to on the day of a shoot. I used to find this challenging at the beginning of my career almost a decade ago, but now? I kind of love it! It’s a little thrilling to see what I’ll need to work around to make magic happen for my couples.

As you can probably guess based on that introduction alone, Cristina and Fitz’s session was no exception. We arrived for their shoot a few days after the Fourth of July festivities, knowing that there may be some leftover remnants (and fencing!) from the celebration.  It turns out, all of that doesn’t come down until July 9th (future note for myself and all DC photographers!), so we just worked around it! To make things even more interesting, the on-going construction at the Lincoln was temporarily closing down access to the columns.

Luckily, there is no shortage of beautiful photo spots on the National Mall — so we captured what we could at the Lincoln and the Reflecting Pool before heading over to the DC War Memorial. Thanks to a bit of professional angling and lots of experience shooting at the monuments (plus a bit of Photoshop magic, of course!), you won’t see one bit of all that fencing anywhere in their photos! It was another beautiful morning and I can’t think of a better couple to have navigated the craziness of DC with that day! I’m already looking forward to their Mayflower Hotel wedding next summer!
