Over the years as a Washington, DC wedding photographer, I’ve captured sessions in all the elements! Engagement sessions can often times have the luxury of rescheduling in case of truly inclement weather like a hurricane or snowstorm, but wedding days will go on regardless, so I’ve seen it all — rain, snow, sleet, wind, and even extreme heat which might be the worst of them all! And no matter what, my job as a professional photographer is to deliver my clients beautiful photographs!
Jodie and Marc’s session was met with a combination of a chilly November morning and unforeseen winds! We both planned ahead for the cold (you can view my cold weather photography tips on the blog!), but the surprise of wind brought its own challenges. Luckily for me, I was working with the sweetest couple who didn’t complain once — seriously! Jodie started our session in the most stunning Marchesa gown and despite the delicate off-the-shoulder design, she smiled through every photograph and happily went from location to location — from the Reflecting Pool, to the Lincoln, to the Gardens — to maximize our time with one another. Throughout the entire session, she and Marc just laughed through the cold… which I always think is a sign of a strong relationship when they can shrug off the little things together!
As we headed to the DC War Memorial, we were greeted with a bit of warming sunshine and calming winds, much to the relief of everyone! Paired with Jodie’s showstopping white Jonathan Simkhai dress, we were all ready to rock the second half of this session in a space all to ourselves. These turned out to be some of my favorite pictures from the entire shoot! Jodie and Marc will be married back in her home state of Mississippi next October and I assured her the weather will be much kinder to them then!
