Kari and Cary eloped at the DC War Memorial in Washington, DC on Valentine’s Day — arguably, the most romantic day of year. Valentine’s Day isn’t just another romantic holiday to these two, however, it’s the eight year anniversary to the day they first met. Eight years ago, they each had a friend who realized they had a single friend name Kari/Cary. As a group, they decided to attend a Valentine’s Day bar crawl across Washington, DC. After many stops, they ended up at the same Panera, sharing late night sandwiches and later realizing they both had their first job at the establishment! Talk about fate!
Speaking of random coincidences, Kari and I realized that we stayed in the EXACT same room when we attended James Madison University a few years apart. I’m talking the same dorm, on the same floor, in the same pod of rooms. The exact. same. room! Isn’t that wild? JMU has a ton of on campus housing so even just the same Hall would’ve been pretty wild.
Anywho, I digress — back to Kari and Cary! While they decided to elope — just the two of them! — on their eight year anniversary in the city that means so much to their love story… they will be later celebrating with their families and friends in Cary’s home state of Kentucky! It’ll be a three day celebration, starting on Thursday and going all the way until the Kentucky Derby! Kari might even end up wearing her gorgeous wedding dress, complete with a fabulous, oversized hat, of course!
It was such a joy to capture this special day for this sweet couple on a beautiful February afternoon in the District! We couldn’t have had better weather or a prettier sunset!
