Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial Engagement Photos

This May, I captured Heidi and Tucker’s engagement photos at the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC. These two had originally planned for a Cherry Blossom engagement session, but, unfortunately, the fleeting nature of the blooms didn’t work with their travel schedule. Luckily, DC put on a great show the morning of their shoot at the monuments later spring. The photos turned out equally as beautiful and we were able to capture some of the most iconic locations in the city under gorgeous cloud-covered skies. The sun peeked out a few times, providing a stunning glow behind our DC backdrop.

You wouldn’t know it from their photos — thanks to some creative angling and a bit of Photoshop, of course! — but the monuments were buzzing with photoshoots this day due to the impending graduation ceremonies. They asked if this was a normal day at the Lincoln Memorial and I assured them it wasn’t! There is typically a few folks who gather to watch the sunrise and a small handful of sessions, but the amount of shoots was like nothing I had ever seen — note to self for future May engagement sessions!

Heidi and Tucker will be getting married next spring in Texas, where both of their families currently reside. They moved to the DMV about a year ago and have visited the District on several occasions. It was on one of those trips, last winter, where Tucker proposed to Heidi. She had a suspicion the proposal would be coming soon, as their trip coincided with Valentine’s Day weekend; however, Heidi had assumed during a fancy dinner. Tucker was able to catch her off guard, when their tour guide got them a visit to the top of the Washington Monument where he popped the question!
