2019 was definitely the year of ALP babies! You’ve likely seen a few of my past couples on the blog; I’ve already had the joy of photographing four sets of my clients for either announcement, maternity, or newborn photos and have even more on the way later this year into early next year! Which, trust me, I absolutely love it! I often get asked, “what are some horror stories from weddings that you’ve shot” and honestly, I really don’t have any! None to do with my clients, at least. I limit the number of weddings I capture each year so I can serve every couple as well as the last, but also so I can pick them as much as they pick me! It’s for this very reason that I don’t have any client horror stories (knock on wood!) and I hope to keep that way.
When Kaitlyn and DJ reached out about the arrival of their sweet baby girl, Skylar, I was overjoyed to hear from them! You may remember their Lincoln Memorial engagement session or their National Cathedral & Fairmont wedding — both were absolutely stunning and executed flawlessly. So it was no surprise that their lifestyle newborn session in their home in Northern VA went exactly the same way!
I think it’s safe to say that most parents of newborns I photograph are nervous their baby won’t cooperate and that’s a valid fear; honestly, most of them DON’T… because they are newborns and as much as we’d like to control the situation, things are just not in our hands! But I do share a list of suggestions to make the session go as smoothly as possible and these two followed them to a “t”. The result? One of the best newborn sessions I’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing! Skylar slept until the minute we wrapped up and didn’t bat an eye as we changed rooms, outfits, etc, throughout the course of the session.
Kait & DJ, thank you both so much for allowing me into these wonderful moments of your lives! I loved catching up with the two of you and meeting your sweet baby girl!
