The moment I met Doug and Kaitlyn at the Lincoln Memorial for our sunrise engagement session in Washington, DC, I knew we would get along. They are the type of people that the second you meet, they put you at ease – which, is ironic considering I’m supposed to be the one putting them at ease; I honestly felt like I was meeting up with old friends for a coffee date (with the best view in town) instead of there to shoot a session for my clients! We chatted about all things wedding and it made get even more excited for their big day next May at the DC Fairmont Hotel! 

Kaitlyn and Doug were initially introduced by her brother-in-law who was childhood friends with Doug growing up. They kept in touch over the years and, as such, Doug was often showing up at the same place as Kaitlyn and it seemed like they couldn’t stop running in to one another. When they finally started dating, their only regret was that they didn’t start sooner! Doug knew Kaitlyn was the one and this past Christmas, started putting his proposal plan into action. He gifted her with a new camera and suggested a week later, on New Year’s Day, that they go test it out with some friends in Great Falls Park. He previously scoped out a spot for the proposal, but didn’t realize how slippery it might be a few weeks later! Kaitlyn thought he was crazy when he suggested they check out the view and they both joked that they had a proposal with a near death experience! But the view was more than worth it, especially when Doug dropped to one knee and asked Kaitlyn to be his wife. As he planned, their friends caught everything on camera so they have images to remember that moment forever! 

I had such a blast getting to know these two!! Their wedding falls on the same weekend as ours did (…er five years ago) and I couldn’t think of a better couple to celebrate with!
