Emily and Derek are getting married at the Tidewater Inn in Easton, Maryland next fall. For their engagement session, however, they selected the stunning Meridian and House Washington, DC as their backdrop.

Emily and Derek were looking for something out of the ordinary, and this was just the place. If you’ve been reading the blog for any amount of time, you likely know this is one of my favorite spots in the city. One visit to my website and you’ll see various Meridian House weddings featured everywhere! It’s just one of those unique venues in the District that features both lovely gardens, unique landscapes, and beautiful architecture… all in one place. All features that can be difficult to come by in the middle of a city.

This sweet couple met in one of the unlikeliest places — at their office. In a fun twist of fate, it is an office that they share with a former ALP groom, Andrew, who was married to his amazing wife KC at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.  They are one of my favorite couples that I have been able to document countless times over the past few years, so it only made me more excited to connect with Emily & Derek.

The day of their engagement session was absolutely perfect. Shooting at the Meridian House meant we had the entire place to ourselves — completely outside the tourists and residents of DC. We ended up spending nearly two hours on the property, taking our time so we could chat, get to know one another, and get these two ready for the big day. I’m already looking forward to celebrating with their families next October. From our brief time with one another, it was clear just how important family is to these two and I plan to document their wedding with that in mind!
