Martha Stewart Weddings: Monogrammed Cakes Feature

Aug 14, 2018

I love seeing the ever-changing trends of wedding evolve over time; even though Rob and I were only married in 2011 at Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, VA, things have changed tremendously in just a few years. When we were married, the big thing for wedding reception treats were cupcakes! We, of course, being huge cake lovers loved this idea because it allowed us to have, like, 5 different flavors to enjoy by having cupcakes! Recently, the shift has gone towards more dramatic cakes that are part of the centerpiece of the evening’s decor. They are tied into the theme and I’ve seen everything ranging from faux marble and watercolor to intricate florals and even geodes — these cakes are truly works of art! Another trend, a true Southern tradition, if you will, is adding your monogram in edible fondant to the cake.

From Martha Stewart Weddings: “It’s no wonder monograms are so popular at weddings: They are a great way to honor your newly-shared last name or a combination of your first initials. Plus, they’re a classic go-to for customizing big-day details and décor. Whether typeset, calligraphed, or illustrated, the initials bring attention to family and new bonds, while simultaneously making your nuptials a little more representative of who you are. Though we love monograms on stationery, signage, and cocktail napkins, there’s an even sweeter way to introduce your marriage letters, and that’s on your wedding cake. As etiquette goes, you shouldn’t display a monogram with your married initials until after the ceremony when you’re officially hitched, so what better time to display them than immediately after you’re pronounced Mr. and Mrs.? And even though you won’t use it until the big day, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming up a monogram design for your wedding cake well before you’re married.”

I was so incredibly lucky to have one of the gorgeous monogrammed cakes that I photographed last year at Madison and Corey’s Retreat at Cool Springs wedding featured on Martha Stewart Weddings! So when you have a moment, please head over to MSW to see an entire gallery full of stunning monogrammed cakes here!

This fine art film photographer from Washington, DC was featured on one of the world's largest wedding blogs, Martha Stewart Weddings.
