Maddy and Robbie had an overcast engagement session at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC. If you’ve been reading my blog for any time, you know I’m a sucker for cloudy skies — there is just something about the images that are so crisp and clean, it makes the colors pop. We had originally planned to photograph their engagement session at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, VA, but when the weather turned at the last minute, these two were totally up to pivot which I loved. Maddy had her hair and makeup scheduled and they wanted to use the images for the wedding website so the last thing they wanted to do was push their session. You can tell a lot about a couple who can shift on a dime — so much of life and marriage is about making compromise and being ready to adapt and these two just have it. They embraced the weather and the result? Some seriously stunning engagement photos at one of my favorite monuments in the District.
Maddy and Robbie’s love story started like any great tale, at $1 beer night at Hamilton’s Bar in DC, of course! They met and shared some laughs over cold PBRs, and the rest was history. Fast forward to April 2021: they just settled into an apartment in Clarendon and continued building a life together. It was then in September of 2023, that Robbie popped the question. The two were at the scenic waterfront in Old Town Alexandria; afterward, they celebrated with friends and family, marking the beginning of their next chapter together.
This sweet couple will be married at NMWA in Washington, DC next summer. This historic venue had been closed for renovation for years, so I’m looking forward to returning to the changes since the last time I photographed a wedding here! The wedding will be shot alongside the planning team behind Roberts & Co. Events, one of my favorite in the industry, so it’s sure to be a favorite of the season!
