It’s no secret that I LOVE capturing portrait sessions at the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC. I’ve been a photographer in the area for over a decade and haven’t missed a season in years. I’m familiar with all the best locations and know where to catch the morning light… oh and I’m always willing to stand our ground so we can get a clear backdrop for your photos :) I even have an extensive Guide to Cherry Blossom Portraits that you can view for more details if you’re interested in a session. But one of the points I always make sure to note is that I book a maximum of three sessions per year. The reason being, for me, is that I like to ensure every couple can have a session during peak bloom. With peak bloom being so unpredictable (you literally cannot know it’s happening for sure more than 2-3 days in advance), session dates are up in the air until the last minute. I’d hate for a couple to have their heart set on photos and not being able to have them, so I try to avoid this by limiting my slots and making sure all couples know to get ready and stay ready throughout mid-March to early-April.
Nancy and John were one of those couples that was absolutely down to follow everything in the guide to a “t”. We worked together months in advance on finding the perfect outfits and — I think you’ll agree when you see the photos below — that she absolutely nailed it! These two were on time for their shoot, were patient as we waited for openings, and walked over a mile with me up and down the Tidal Basin to hit all the best spots. Despite being a chilly morning, Nancy didn’t complain once (more than John and I can say!) and the results are simply stunning. Enjoy a bit of Nancy and John’s 10th anniversary cherry blossom portrait session below!
