Black Tie Washington, DC Wedding

I had several double headers this wedding season, but my last one was just a few weeks ago in early October — coincidentally the weekend that Hurricane Joaquin decided to announce his presence. Jenn and Daniel were being married in Arlington at the Key Bridge Hotel, but had plans for some stunning wedding formals at the Lincoln Memorial and Constitution Gardens in Washington, DC. All week we e-mailed back and forth, setting up rain plans and preparing for the worst. Well, Joaquin arrived (PTL for an amazing backup plan!), considerably with less force than predicted, but nevertheless, was still present.

As a wedding photographer, I often get asked if I think rain on the big day is good luck — a lot of people are surprised when I give an honest answer of “no”, thinking how could I not be optimistic when a couple is thrown such a hard challenge on the biggest day of their lives!? I promise, I’m not an old grouch! See, in my opinion, it’s not the weather that matters — it could be sunny and 105 degrees, raining and 45 degrees, or even snowing — it’s how the couple handles whatever is thrown at them that defines their marriage. And these two? Despite the nonstop mist and late November-like temperatures, couldn’t take their eyes off one another. Their day was spent joking, laughing, and enjoying the company of their friends and family.

Working with Jenn and Daniel isn’t really work — all day, on THEIR day, I was treated like an old friend they’ve known for years. It’s couples like these who constantly reaffirm why I love what I do. Jenn and Daniel, I can’t even remember now how we found one another but I’m so happy we did. It was truly an honor to be at your wedding and I was so lucky to work with you over this past year. I hope you’re soaking in all of Greece and I cannot wait to hear all about it when you get home!! xx
