This past Friday, in the midst of Hurricane Joaquin, I photographed a stunning black tie wedding at Airlie Center in Warrenton, VA. I had previously shot here on several occasions (here, here and here), but had been dying to shoot a wedding in their stunning English gardens — the impending storm tried to ruin that for Kelly and Drew, but the rain stopped just in time for us to head outside for a few couples portraits! I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to have a hurricane thrown their way; they handled it with such grace and fully embraced it as part of their wedding day story. Kelly laughed as Drew carried her over the soft, wet ground and they simply squeezed one another a little tighter to battle the frigid temperatures. Their team rallied around them, helping with umbrellas and wedding dress “train duty” wherever possible. And all the while, Kelly and Drew never stopped smiling, never stopped enjoying their day — in fact, I don’t think these two took a break from the dance floor all night!
Kelly and Drew, thank you for allowing me to meet your lovely families and celebrate the biggest day of your lives with you! I hope you are having an amazing honeymoon!
Fun fact: I had three of my 2015 ALP couples at this wedding! You might remember Sam and Matt‘s Mill at Fine Creek wedding from a few weeks ago, of course the stunning couple of the day, Kelly and Drew, and Kelly and Tom who are getting married in Old Town Alexandria in early December! I loved getting to catch up and celebrate with all of you!
A huge thank you to these vendors for making Kelly & Drew’s wedding amazing! And to Ali McLaughlin Photography for being an awesome second shooter!
