Kira and Dan are certainly no strangers to the ALP blog; you may recognize them from their Old Town Alexandria engagement session or even their Fawn Lake Country Club wedding! But their latest addition, their puppy Lily, is having her first appearance! I was so excited when Kira e-mailed to tell me they had adopted a dog and wanted to include her in their first anniversary session. I was even more smitten when they showed up with her for our sunrise shoot at Manassas Battlefield Park one cool morning in August. She took a minute to warm up to me, but as soon as she realized the hot dog treats were sticking with me, we were best buds!
As I mentioned, we were treated to a near perfect August morning for our shoot. Generally, when you think of August, you assume it’s going to be hot and sticky (which is why I always encourage my clients to do a sunrise session so that we can at least take advantage of the cooler mornings!). But on this day it was actually borderline chilly and I bundled up in a sweater on my way out the door. The Battlefields are nothing short of “outdoorsy”, so we had beautiful grass fields a plenty. The only problem was, that the unusually low temperatures left a heavy morning dew. And while Kira and Dan were total troopers, Miss Lily took the brunt of it! This sweet thing is a tiny pup, as you’ll see in images below, and could barely see above the grass! She took the wetness like a champ and we were sure to dry her off halfway through the session for a bit of a refresh, if you will :)
Their anniversary session was still absolutely perfect and I think you’ll agree the morning fog was breathtaking! I loved getting to reconnect with one of my favorite ALP couples and it was such a joy to capture their first anniversary — I can’t wait for year 2; hopefully we will get to do your session in Richmond by then!
