I’ve been anxiously awaiting Kira & Dan’s Old Town Alexandria engagement session for months — I met these two many months ago, all the way back in March when they started planning for their August 2016 wedding in Fredericksburg, VA. We waited until late summer for their engagement session and couldn’t have picked a nicer day if we tried. It felt like the first real day of fall, despite being just early September, and we were blessed with the most amazing light throughout their entire session — sunrise, you win again! 

As a Washington, DC wedding photographer, it’s easy to shoot at the same venues or locations time and time again. You could take the easy route and do the same shots in the exact same spots, already knowing the light there would be fantastic. Or you could challenge yourself to try something new which is the method I personally prefer! It’s more fun for me to get a unique perspective each time I visit, and that’s exactly what I did for these two! 

I remembered from our initial meeting that Dan had proposed to Kira on New Years but realized I had never asked about how they first met. Kira quickly explained that it was nothing too exciting, they just met at William & Mary during a graduate school orientation. I laughed and then smiled, telling her that I did think that was exciting — I met Rob during our time at JMU! It’s funny to think about how one decision shapes the rest of our lives. You pick a school based on any number of factors, never realizing that you’re headed to meet your person. And these two certainly did. From the jokes and laughs they shared while sitting on the dock to the genuine affection behind each grab of the hand, I could immediately tell through their authentic emotions that they were perfect for one another. I’m bummed I have to wait almost another year for their wedding because I already know it’s going to be an amazing day!
