A few weeks ago, I headed down to Virginia Beach to meet Kim and Myles for their stylish engagement session at First Landing State Park. I had been looking forward to this session for quite a while as I’ve never actually had the pleasure of capturing an e-session in VA Beach. I had previously been to the area for a Kingsmill Resort wedding and a Williamsburg Inn wedding, but never quite this far south. I was telling Kim and Myles that as much as I LOVE shooting in Washington, DC (and trust me, that’s an understatement cause I could never, ever get sick of that gorgeous architecture!), that it’s also nice to have something a bit different to keep things fresh and unique. These two were so sweet to oblige me as I giddly explored the park in search of that infamous spanish moss and the perfect, secluded spot on the beach. We were incredibly fortunate to be shooting on the most perfect summer day; somehow late August blessed us with the high 70’s and beautiful overcast light!
Kim and Myles are currently living in Richmond, but actually met while they were both students at VA Tech — my husband and I are college sweethearts as well, so those couples always have a special spot in my heart! They managed a year of long distance before Myles moved down south from Philly (go Eagles!) and they’ve been together in our state’s capital ever since.
Myles loved setting up surprises for Kim, so their engagement had to be no exception to this rule. He let her know they were going out to dinner one weekend and that she should prepare to dress up. As the date drew closer, Kim felt a sickness coming on and let him know it would be better to postpone. But Myles insisted, throwing in a famous, “trust me!” and she decided to go along with it. As she was putting the final touches on her outfit, Myles came up behind her and said it seemed like one thing was missing… she turned around to find him on one knee! Despite her oncoming sickness, she unsurprisingly says it was still a perfect night!
I am so excited to celebrate another perfect night with these two next May at their Mill at Fine Creek wedding in Powhatan, VA — spring cannot get here soon enough!
