Black Tie Army & Navy Club Wedding in DC

Cady and James were married on a truly perfect October day during their elegant Army Navy Cub wedding in Washington, DC. The weather teetered just between that splendid balance of summer and winter with streams sunlight dappling in and out of the fluffy white clouds. It was a stark contrast to their Chicago engagement session I photographed late last November, where we were greeted with below seasonal temperatures and ice/snow on the ground!

The beautiful weather wasn’t just inviting to us, however, but also to the many tourists across the District. I would say it was a busy day at the monuments, but if I’m being honest, it’s always a busy day at the monuments! Shooting there can certainly be a challenge, but as a DC wedding photographer, it’s something I handle on a regular basis and actually love doing! I even go so far as to promise my sweet brides and grooms that we won’t have tourists in every single one of their photos! Sure maybe a few wide shots here or there, but once we get into the columns, I am confident I can always find a spot to ourselves.

That promise, however, was proving especially difficult on this lovely October afternoon. Enter, the best wedding party of all time! They literally manned our location on either side so we could take advantage of the stunning sunlight pouring in to the back side of this marble beauty. We, of course, took short breaks for tourists who wanted to enjoy the view as well, but I think it’s safe to say Cady and James’ beautiful portraits are due in large part to their amazing group of friends! They say a person is the sum of those they surround themselves with, and between their friends and families (who were kind enough to let me borrow their hotel room for shooting details!), it’s clear that these two are pretty wonderful people.

The rest of the day went off without a hitch, which really didn’t come as a surprise considering they hired a vendor dream team led by the unmatched Roberts and Co Events! Enjoy the photos and check out their incredible vendors at the bottom!
