I cannot think of anything more romantic than a Cherry Blossom elopement in Washington, DC during peak bloom at the Tidal Basin. Amanda and John opted to do just that, starting their morning amongst the infamous blooms and then later joining their families at the DC War Memorial for their ceremony. Despite a chilly start, the day warmed up quickly as the sun peeked out from behind the Jefferson Memorial. I’m not sure if it was the cold temperatures or the early bloom this Cherry Blossom season, but the Tidal Basin was emptier than normal for peak bloom! We didn’t quite have the place to ourselves, but some artistic angling sure made it seem so in their gorgeous elopement photos!
Amanda and John were such good sports about navigating the crowds, the long walks (double, in their case! ;) ), and the chilly sunrise. These two were simply swept up in the moment and just focused on marrying one another. This was a day that over 13 years in the making. They met in high school in Tennessee and started dating during their freshman year of college. Amanda and John knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with one another, but were in no rush to tie the knot. They both had personal and professional goals that they wanted to achieve, while continuing to establish their strong bond. Plus they had their sweet puppy, Argonaut, to raise!
When they were ready to say “I do”, they wanted to just focus on the nuptials without all the fanfare. They had a short, but personal, elopement at the DC War Memorial with just their parents in attendance. It was a testament to their love that has already stood for over a decade and counting, through many of life’s biggest hurdles. It was such a honor to be the one to document this day for Amanda and John at the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC!
