As a Washington, DC wedding photographer, I will certainly never tire of photographing in and out the beautiful architecture this lovely city has to offer. That being said, I do love the opportunity to get out of the city on occasion to shoot somewhere completely different and earlier this spring, I did just that. I met Julia and Anson at the gorgeous Virginia House in Richmond, VA to capture their five art film engagement session. You may remember the Virginia House wedding I photographed or my own personal maternity photos I had done there, so I was no stranger to this location. We were so grateful to miss the impending storms by meeting a bit earlier in the day and I was just delighted by how beautifully the light ended up for their photos!

It was, however, Julia and Anson’s first time visiting the Virginia House. They just moved to the area for work last fall and it’s been hard to explore with so many COVID limitations. While they may now call VA home, their story takes them all over the US!

Julia was born in MS and Anson was raised in TX. Upon completion of their undergraduate programs, they separately made the decision to attend med school in Chicago. They were introduced by mutual friends and spent a year as such — both thinking that a relationship wasn’t even a option. But a fateful autumn day, when breeze hit juuuusssttt right, Julia saw Anson in a new light. They wrapped up their time in Chicago and headed to Ohio to complete their respective residencies about two hours apart. They both landed jobs here in VA and, as they say, the rest is history.

Because their families are so spread out, they’ve decided to get married in the state they now call home. Julia and Anson are working with the lovely Kerri from Elle Loren & Co. to plan their sure-to-be stunning King Family Vineyard wedding. I’m looking forward to seeing their two families come together for one big celebration next spring!
