Welcome to my blog, where I share highlights of everything from my client's wedding days and portrait sessions, to recent features and our adventures around the world.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

The Portrait Project | Becca

Jan 4, 2017

Like so many of the amazing women that I’ve photographed for The Portrait Project, I first met Becca last November at Creative at Heart in Charleston, SC because we were both Washington, DC wedding photographers with a classic black-tie style. We sat next to each other in our small group and quickly realized how naturally we got along. While we both live in Virginia, our “little” state is actually enormous and the distance has kept us apart since then. I was so excited when she reached out about being photographed as I knew it would be an opportunity to not only catch up with one another, but for me to see her ever growing bump! After a very long journey, Becca and her husband are expecting their first child this January. It would have been an honor to capture her beauty at any point, but especially during this phase of her life. Read a bit more about Becca and then hop down to see her stunning images!

Name | Becca Bronkema
Age | 33
…I always get complimented on my smile, but my favorite feature is actually my lips!
…I haven’t always been proud of my teeth; I was teased relentlessly in grade school for having an overbite and was always self-conscious about them growing up. But I am definitely learning to appreciate my smile as an adult!
…I feel most confident when my husband tells me how beautiful I am when I’m in PJs without any makeup on. Being pregnant has also given me a new sense of confidence after our long journey to conceive.
The last time I felt truly beautiful was…
when I left for this shoot! My husband was very excited that I was being photographed without any makeup on AND while being 8 months pregnant with our first, long-awaited, child.
If you could give one piece of advice to other creative business owners, what would it be?
You can be inspired by other amazing creatives, but never try to “be” them… be yourself, have fun, and never doubt your ability to follow your dreams!
