Anniversary sessions are near and dear to my heart. Before we had our own children, this is something that Rob and I had documented on a yearly basis starting all the way back in 2012 (!) for our first anniversary! I clearly love all things photography and this seemed like a special way to mark milestones in our lives as each and every year of marriage looks so very different.
I was thrilled when Rachel reached out about having her and Kyle’s first anniversary captured here in Washington, DC. This sweet couple was married last summer in North Carolina where they both grew up. They recently moved to DC while Kyle finishes up school and figured this would be a great place for their anniversary session this year to remember what life was like while in DC.
Originally we planned to capture their session at Tudor Place, but unfortunately an event was being held that evening. Instead, Rachel and Kyle opted to shoot in another secret garden-esque location in Washington, DC called Dumbarton Oaks. I actually think the change of venue ended up being for the best as the photos from Dumbarton Oaks are beyond stunning! Every corner of this hidden gem has a beautiful spot for photos and the late summer light was hitting just right!
After wrapping up in the gardens, we headed out to the streets of Georgetown, where these two currently call home, to meet up with their sweet pup Stella. Stella was an absolute star and would pretty much do anything for a photo, so long as a treat was involved!
While these two may not be in DC long term, it was a joy to photograph them during their time in this wonderful city! Cheers to many more years!
