Lindsey and Ajay were in an intimate DC War Memorial wedding this March alongside their closest family and friends. This sweet couple loves the Cherry Blossoms so much that they planned their big day around when they hoped the flowers would be in season… and are visiting Japan for their blossom following the wedding!  I’ve been documenting weddings in Washington, DC for a decade, and one of the biggest perks of this job is getting to photograph during the Cherry Blossom bloom along the Tidal Basin.

As I’ve outlined in my Ultimate Guide to a Cherry Blossom Photos in DC, the most important thing to know about the bloom is that it is completely unpredictable until about 5-10 days before it actually happens. I also require my Cherry Blossom sessions to have a flexible schedule so we can shoot as close to peak as possible… but obviously this isn’t realistic for a wedding day that is planned months in advance. All that to say, the fact that the Cherry Blossoms were in FULL bloom on their day of their wedding was simply a bit of wonderful fate! While the weather conditions may not have been ideal, they made the best of it an fought through the crowds for those perfect shots. The result is absolutely stunning portraits that capture the essence of what these two transplants to the District love the most about their new city. 

Lindsey and Ajay arranged for their families, who are from Arizona and Utah, to experience a tour around the city while we visited the Tidal Basin. It was such a thoughtful way for their guests to make the most of their time here in DC! We later joined them at Rose’s Luxury, where they enjoyed a five course meal that is one of the best dining experiences in DC. My favorite part about Rose’s is that they provide a five star meal and impeccable service without every feeling stuffy. All in all, it was a day filled with so much joy and love that a little bit of rain couldn’t bring down their spirits!
