Sarah and Jack’s sunrise engagement session in Georgetown combined a few of my favorite things: Washington, DC at sunrise, a beautiful Rent the Runway Dress, and an incredibly sweet JMU couple (because if you haven’t been following the blog for a while, my husband and I are a JMU couple ourselves!) — so even from the onset, I knew it was going to be a good one! Sarah and I had been planning for this day for what felt like months and, of course, it ended up being the week that a huge hurricane was supposed to travel our way. We nervously watched the weather all week, prepared to shoot on whichever morning looked like our best chance for clear skies. As the week progressed, we were relieved to see the predicted rain fall off the forecast entirely, as it so often does, and were left with one of the most stunning sunrises I can remember in a long time. If I could describe this session in just one word, it would be LIGHT! As you’ll see in the image below, it seemed to just surround us wherever we went, leaving the most beautiful glow for this couple’s portraits.
Sarah and Jack had been anxiously awaiting this day for many years. As I mentioned above, they met at JMU when they both joined the swing dancing club! Sarah joined first her freshman year and was on the board when Jack joined his second year. They spent a lot of time getting to know one another on the dance floor and it quickly turned into something so much more than just dance partners! These two are getting married next September at the John Marshall Ballroom in Richmond, VA and I think it’s a bit of an understatement to say it’s certainly going to have the best group of dancers my entire season — they gave me a little peek during their session and I was nothing short of impressed! I can’t wait to celebrate with these two, their families, and all their swing dance friends!
