I could tell that Catherine and I would get along well from our initial e-mail (so much so that I was able to look past the fact that she works for Mars, Inc — the biggest rival of my hometown, Hershey!). She mentioned a love of cooking and travel, which, if you’ve ever met me, you’d know are two of my very favorite things! Not to mention when she and Kyle arrived at our home for a meeting to discuss all things wedding related, she came prepared with cookie butter cheesecake bites from Trader Joe’s that were to die for; I’m telling you, this girl speaks my language! We bonded over our love of all things French and I was only slightly jealous when they told me about the amazing weather they had on their vacation to Murren this past year.
It was actually her love of France that led her to choose the Library of Congress for their engagement session! I’ve written at length how I often think DC resembles bits and pieces of that beautiful country (you can read more in detail on this Modern French Wedding post!), so I immediately agreed — anywhere in this amazing city makes my Washington, DC wedding photographer‘s heart sing! And Kyle, more of an outdoorsy guy himself thought Yards Park by the Nationals Stadium would be the perfect spot to end our session. I knew we couldn’t go wrong with either of these fantastic locations and so on the morning of their session, I awoke with so much excitement! It was a beautiful September morning… I feel like October gets a lot of play for being the “best” photography month, but honestly, this is my favorite! As an October, baby trust me, I love fall more than anyone. But it also has very unpredictable weather (read: hurricanes) and is super crowded! We had the place to ourselves as the sun gentle rose over the skyline. I think you’ll agree these two were dressed to perfection and I’m still needing to know how Catherine does that perfect top knot!
Catherine and Kyle, thank you for such a fun sunrise session in DC! I so appreciate your willingness to explore the city and even get in the chilly water of the wading pool! You two are such an amazing couple and I’m really excited for your wedding at the Thomas Birkby House in Leesburg, VA next September!
