I can’t rave enough about how much I love living in this beautiful city and being a Washington, DC wedding photographer. We truly have an endless amount of backdrops to choose from, each one more stunning than the last. I’ve been so lucky to photograph all over this city as some of the most iconic spots from the Lincoln Memorial and DAR Constitution Hall to the Library of Congress and Carnegie Institution for Science. The one place still on my bucket list was the Jefferson Memorial. Sure, I had captured a few engagement sessions here, but never a bride and groom… and trust me when I say, there is nothing more stunning than a lovely wedding dress against that white marble! It is, however, one of the hardest monuments to get to and being so small, crowds are always abundant during the weekend when a couple would visit for portraits, making it not necessarily an ideal choice for every bride and groom.
I decided to take matters into my own hand and put together a small shoot with an already married couple! I put out a call on social media and was completely humbled with how many responses I received! When I read Kaylie’s e-mail first, I knew she was the one. They had been married this past October, but were, unfortunately, dealt a hurricane on their wedding. While they did get a few outdoor portraits, the day overall felt rushed and they were both excited to do a few more. Turns out, after chatting for a bit further, that Kaylie and I realized we had more than a few friends in common — she too attended VCU and was in Phi Mu like so many of my past brides — it’s really such a small world! We hit it off from the start of our session and couldn’t have had a more perfect morning at this gorgeous monument. These two are SUCH naturals in front of the camera and allowed me to take them spot after spot; we even visited what was left of the cherry blossoms that had peaked just a few days prior! It really is one of my all time favorite sessions!
And that AMAZING, colorful spring bouquet you’ll see in nearly all the photos below? That was designed by the incredible Sophie of Sophie + Co.! She has an awesome team that serves the DC area and I couldn’t recommend her more to any brides looking for a talented florist!
