Sam and Matt had one of my favorite weddings of the year at The Mill at Fine Creek in Powhatan, VA! As a Washington, DC wedding photographer, much like being a mother or father, you aren’t really allowed to pick your favorite “children” — but if I was, these two would certainly be at the top of my list. We connected immediately the first time we chatted. I remember getting a duplicate inquiry for their date before they officially booked and felt absolutely panicked. It’s the one and only time in my career that I took a chance and turned down the other couple who was ready to sign on the dotted line. I was so confident in my connection with Sam that I hoped they would be the couple I got to spend 9.19.15 with! In the end, everything landed exactly the way it was supposed to and I got to be their photographer. Our time spent at JMU for their engagement session was amazing and made the wedding day only more special. I won’t confirm or deny if I actually shed a few tears saying goodbye to them at the end of the night.
Not only are they an amazing couple, but they put so much thought into every detail that they showcased throughout the venue that I really wanted to make sure all their hard work paid off! The Mill is such a unique venue to begin with that there was really no way this wouldn’t be a great wedding. It’s one of those rare spots that you could barely decorate and it would STILL look amazing — but these two went above and beyond, decorating the space to the nines. I was absolutely ecstatic when Glamour and Grace agreed that their wedding would be a perfect fit — they love all things feminine and lace and Sam’s details fit the bill!
