Welcome to my blog, where I share highlights of everything from my client's wedding days and portrait sessions, to recent features and our adventures around the world.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

Black Tie Bride: Washington, DC Wedding Feature

Nov 14, 2015

Jennifer and Daniel’s black tie Washington, DC wedding was one of my favorites to photograph the entire 2015 season; she is such a timeless beauty and her entire day reflected that as well. From her chic satin dress to her pearl earrings and gold details, the first world that came to mind time after time was classic. Coincidentally (or maybe not!) one of my favorite wedding blogs to follow is The Black Tie Bride who’s motto is “because classic never goes out of style”. I was so excited to submit their wedding to BTB and even more excited when they accepted it for publication! It’s truly an honor to see your work published among those you have followed for years. Head over to The Black Tie Bride to see the full feature here!

A black tie wedding in Washington, DC at the Lincoln Memorial and National Portrait Gallery is featured on the timeless blog The Black Tie Bride.

When I was preparing this wedding for submission, it made me reflect back a bit upon the day. I was realizing how it comes as no surprise that a bride’s details help set the tone of the day. If she is choosing a simple strapless dress it is likely to be a more low-key wedding vs someone who chooses a multi-layer princess ballgown. Neither option is bad, but both exude very different feels. I think the same thing can be said about many aspects of the day, including venue choice, ceremony time, etc, but also the vendors that a bride selects. Living in DC, couples have an endless amount to choose from and each of THOSE people have a different vibe they offer. Some photographers are classic and timeless, others a bit more trendy and modern. Again, absolutely neither is bad, just different and based on the personality/preference of the bride and groom being married. The same can be said for literally anyone they are looking to hire: some florists do wild bouquets, other do simple ball bouquets; makeup artists may offer airbrush and cat eyes or they may only offer loose powder. It all depends on what you are looking for and I highly encourage you to do your research to find the perfect team because trust me, there are out there! Jenn and Daniel’s team was perfectly suited for her black tie wedding and are, I believe, a large part of why this wedding was the perfect fit for Black Tie Bride!
