Colleen & Ted were married in a beautiful spring wedding at the stunning Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, DC and celebrated with their friends and family later that evening at the historic Chevy Chase Club in Maryland. It was one of those truly perfect weather days where the warm sun shone brightly and was paired with a soft, quiet breeze to keep the day from getting too hot.
In between the ceremony and reception, we planned to head to the Lincoln Memorial for portraits as a group. Permit in hand, we shot outside the monument first to get a few iconic shots of this classic location. It wasn’t until we were about to head up into the columns when I noticed there was no one inside. The steps, however, were absolutely littered with patrons, so it took me a minute until I realized construction was blocking access to any of the sides. Colleen and Ted couldn’t have been more collected as I presented an alternative plan — I knew that just a few minutes walk away was the DC War Memorial which is actually one of my favorite spots for photos. The only caveat was that this is also the only memorial where couples can get married; so we had no idea what we would be walking into. Luckily, we had the place to ourselves and got some of the most elegant photos in old DC. The entire wedding party was such a huge help in getting the trolley to pick us up closer so the lovely bride wouldn’t have to traipse back amongst the crowds. I was so grateful for their flexibility and think that we truly lucked into an even better spot!
Guests were enjoying an al fresco cocktail hour on the patio at the Chevy when we arrived after photos, allowing Colleen & Ted lots of time with their friends and family. The reception kicked off with some incredible dances, heartfelt speeches, and even an appearance by Barney. The Source Band kept these folks dancing all night until it came to a close with a romantic sparkler exit in front of the club.
Colleen & Ted, it was such blessing to be part of your family for the day — I honestly couldn’t have felt more welcomed! I hope you had an amazing honeymoon in Belize!
A huge thank you to these vendors for making Colleen & Ted’s wedding amazing! And to Emily Marie Photography for being an awesome second shooter!
