Charleston, SC is one of those places I don’t think I’ve ever get tired of visiting; I’ve been there three times in the past year alone and each time I find an incredible new alley or forest of Spanish moss. Normally a Washington, DC anniversary photographer, coming back to have the privilege of photographing Maggie and Jake’s one year anniversary session in this charming city was super exciting. I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m huge proponent of anniversary sessions, having done one every year since we were married in 2011!

Maggie and Jake were last May in a gorgeous North Carolina wedding. Sure, they had a day filled with luscious florals, flowy dresses, and delicious cake. But these two wanted so much more than just a pretty wedding day, they wanted a marriage that would last for a lifetime. Having dated for over 4 years before the big day, they were finally grateful to be able to come together as man and wife in front of their friends and family, a sentiment that they still share a year later. Looking back on the past year has been amazing for these two: they are both incredible creatives whose businesses have grown exponentially all while trying to find their footing in this new stage of their lives. While business may be all consuming some days, they still make sure to find time for one another whether that’s in the kitchen trying out a new recipe or walking their fur babies. They wanted to have an anniversary session to have a moment to themselves – on that didn’t focus on the frills, but instead their deep and intimate connection.
