I was so excited to finally meet Alison and Michael in person during their Airlie Center engagement session just a few weeks ago. These two are to be married in a wedding ceremony next June at Upper Shirley Vineyard just outside of Richmond. While they now call Northern Virginia home, they grew up in the Richmond area so it felt right to go back their for the big day to be surrounded by their friends and family!
Believe it or not, these two actually met and started dating while attending HIGH SCHOOL when she was a junior and he was a senior! Yes, the rare and elusive high school sweethearts — how incredible is that!? While they didn’t attend the same exact same college — Alison went to Tech and Michael went to Lynchburg College — they stayed together throughout and really only had to survive one year of long distance when he started working near Baltimore after graduation.
It was back in Richmond, however, where Michael proposed nearly seven years after they began dating. They were attending dinner with both their families when Michael’s mom suggested they get some group photos down on the water. As the photo session continued, Michael casually walked away from the group down the dock. Using her, as he calls it, “Michael Radar”, Alison walked to catch up with him for a moment alone…. at her dad’s urging :) On a nearby deckchair, Michael picked up a bouquet of roses he had set up as a surprise and gave her the ring they selected together before asking her to be his wife.
In addition to getting engaged, they also just added a fur baby to their lives! Sweet 9-week old Mila joined us for their session and could not have been more perfect. Seriously, this was one of the easiest (and cutest, duh) pups to photograph which I’m sure will be evident in how many photos she is in below! I had such a great time getting to know these two and look forward to seeing all three of them (yep, Mila will be there too) for the big day next year!
