Welcome to my blog, where I share highlights of everything from my client's wedding days and portrait sessions, to recent features and our adventures around the world.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

The Portrait Project | Jess

Nov 2, 2016

Jess is probably going to laugh when she reads this, but I feel like I’ve known her SO much longer than I really have due to her status as a “KJ Bride”. We first met at the Creative at Heart conference in Staunton, but I remember seeing her Pippin Hill wedding in Charlottesville, VA on Katelyn’s blog YEARS before!! As you’ll see below, she’s such a natural stunner and of course ended up on a ton of Katelyn’s marketing; I always thought she looked so cool and was totally intimidated when I first met her in person. Well, she’s pretty much the opposite of intimidating — Jess is, without a doubt, one of the most laid back, fun, supportive friends you could ask for. She’s been such a blessing to have in my life and I’m always grateful for our lunch dates with Emily! Jess took the time to honestly answer some personal questions for me, so get to know a bit about her before checking out these stunning pictures!

Name | Jess May
Age | 33
…I always get complimented on my smile, but my eyes are actually my favorite feature!
…I haven’t always been proud of my forehead, but I’m learning to embrace it.
…I feel most confident when my husband tells me I’m pretty! I love getting dressed up and having my hair and makeup professionally done, but it’s a totally different feeling to be hanging out in your sweats and have your husband give you a compliment like that!
The last time I felt truly beautiful was…
Honestly, after I saw these pictures! Pregnancy does a number on your body and skin, so I’d be lying if I said I haven’t felt self-conscious these past few months. However, seeing these images made me feel like a million bucks and I quickly embraced my natural beauty.
If you could give one piece of advice to other creative business owners, what would it be?
“My biggest piece of advice is to try your best not to play the comparison game. It’s so easy to look around and compare yourself to other business owners and get down on yourself for not being as “successful” or “talented” or “on top of things” as they are. Just focus on being yourself, remember that success looks different to everyone, and never lose sight of why you find joy in what you do!”
