This has been an absolutely incredible season as a Washington, DC wedding photographer and Lauren & Robert’s Rust Manor house wedding was certainly no exception. I felt like I couldn’t stop gushing the entire morning, oohing and aahing over her chic BHLDN gown and her epic cathedral length veil — it seemed like everything was my new “favorite”, but seriously, it was! So it should come as no surprise that the bridal and couples portraits we took throughout the day are definitely ones for the portfolio.
But Lauren and Robert’s wedding day was about so much more; they really took the time to customize the day to THEM and, instead of blindly following along with old traditions, they created some new ones. First, they opted to not have a wedding party which I absolutely loved. They made sure that those they care about most surrounded them throughout much of the day, but were able to forgo the traditional party obligations, in turn, spending more time alone with one another which is really what the day is all about.
The details as well were, literally, handmade for these two — by Robert himself! He crafted the wooden bar, the placecard board, and dance floor as well as painted the welcome sign, bar signs, and even designed their own chalkboard love story! And that epic veil I mentioned earlier? Lauren’s mother wore that on HER wedding day — I guess good taste runs in the family!
It was truly nothing short of a joy to reunite with Lauren’s fun-loving family (I photographed her sister Katie’s wedding a few years ago!) and meet Robert’s as well. I know there are a few more siblings to be married on each side, so hopefully this isn’t the last time I see this group! Just remember, “save the neck for me”, Robert :)
A huge thank you to these vendors for making Lauren & Robert’s wedding amazing! And to Emily Marie Photography for being an awesome second shooter!
