A Regal Retreat at Cool Spring Wedding

Madison and Corey’s wedding was inspired by their venue, The Retreat at Cool Spring, in Bluemont, VA. They selected this specific venue because they both are drawn to the warm, but formal interiors of traditional southern homes. Along the way while planning for their big day, they fell in love with the idea of incorporating lily of the valley as a motif throughout. It is a simple, but meaningful, nod to a time when blooms were chosen for what they represented rather than how they filled a bouquet. In this case, lily of the valley is traditionally seen as a symbol of humility, sweetness, and happiness — three qualities that they hope to bring to their marriage.

One of my favorite elements of the day was the gorgeous venue itself, The Retreat at Cool Spring. It is one of those unique wedding locations that is so tucked away in the woods of Virginia that if you weren’t looking for it, you would never know it existed. But once you stumble upon it, you are immediately stricken by its elegance and grandeur as the home is filled with both well-appointed furnishings and spectacular light. Madison and Corey’s day was also particularly remarkable to photograph as the details were extraordinary. Some highlights included the delicate bouquet wrapped with a vintage millinery ribbon, the gentlemanly details complimented by a crisp white dinner jacket, the honey-hued velvet napkins on the dining table, and the towering cake adorned with an intricate sugar wreath of greens and lily of the valley.
