It’s probably not a huge secret that when it comes to shooting a portrait session, I have almost a template sort of approach. By this I mean, I control the light by shooting at sunrise or sunset only. We work around the weather. And I have a set of core poses that I’ve curated over the years that fit cohesively with my brand. I do, of course, adapt each and every session to fit my couple by working with them to indenting a perfect location and modifying each pose to evoke their personalities.
When it comes to a lifestyle newborn session, 75% of that goes out the window! We, of course, always have a plan and core poses, but plans can only take you so far when working with babies — we end up following where their lead takes us! Some babies start off asleep and sleep the whole session, others wake up halfway through, and some are awake and excited the entire time! For Meredith and Sean’s session with their sweet baby girl, Quinn, we started off awake! She was so interested in the world around her (particularly the clicks of the camera!) that she just wanted to enjoy our company! For some couples, this can cause of a bit of stress. But for Meredith and Sean? These two were calm, collected, and approached the entire shoot as a team. It did not come as a surprise, having spent one of the biggest days of their lives with them during their Airlie wedding in 2018, but to see them as parents was a totally new experience. Quinn was a mere 10 days old and somehow they looked as though they had been parenting for years. They looked so natural in their new roles as mom and dad and it was such a joy to experience this new phase in their lives. It’s clear how lucky Quinn (and their adorable pup, Ella!) are to call these two mom and dad!
