How have I not blogged about this wonderful family before!? THIS is the family that got me into photography, literally my first paying clients! Let me tell you a bit about how I got my start… 

I’ve known John & Becky since I started working for the Federal government in 2009. The funny part of the story is, I knew them separately first — before they knew each other! John and I were part of a rotational program that allowed us to move from one area of our agency to another every few months before returning to our home base, where I worked with Becky. John ended up doing a rotation in my office and working on a months long project with her where, well, I guess you could say the rest is history. 

Fast forward to last winter — Becky had just gotten pregnant with their second child and wanted to capture memories of this major milestone, regretting that they hadn’t with their first. She asked if I could take some pictures of the three of them before the new baby arrived. I of course agreed — these are truly two of the kindest people you will ever meet, I doubt they ever get a no!! — and after we finished our session I realized that this is what it’s like to get paid to do something you are passionate about. I ran home to tell Rob about how fun it had been he immediately encouraged me to give it a go. If you’re reading this post, you probably know how the rest of the story goes…

Well John & Becky’s latest bundle of joy arrived a few months ago and I had the honor of doing a lifestyle newborn shoot with their family. In spite of photographing this session during a crazy wedding season, I found it surprisingly calm and serene being in the presence of new life.  I could literally write pages about what wonderful and inspiring parents these two are, but I’ll just say this — one of their children is bound to change the world.

I will be eternally grateful for the gentle nudge that Becky gave me in getting this business launched. I can only hope to continuing photographing their family for years to come! Enjoy some of my favorites :)
