A Boston College guy and a Virginia Tech girl fell in love after moving to Washington, DC for work post-college. Though the city wasn’t originally “home” to either of these two, they have quickly made it such. As Joe mentioned during our session, they thought about all those people leaving the Nat’s stadium from a baseball game that were thinking, “aren’t the people who right here so lucky?” and realized just how right they were. They moved to the waterfront, bought season tickets, and have been newfound natives ever since. Joe still dons his Red Sox jersey, of course, but we’ll give him a pass since he was born and raised in Massachusetts :)
As Allison began planning for their sunrise engagement session at the Jefferson Memorial, I knew this was going to quickly become one of my favorites; her sense of style was timeless and elegant and the Jefferson was the perfect backdrop. We had a cool August morning and the monument all to ourselves (thank you, sunrise!) which gave us time to just enjoy the beautiful surroundings that we often take for granted, laughing about how we’ve often seen the place from afar, but never visited. We then headed to the waterfront area called Yards Park, a place near and dear to their lives, for a few fun and casual shots outside Nats Park! Again, another spot I personally had never visited but was excited to see and photograph in person.
Joe & Allison, thank you for taking me all over this amazing city to get to photograph in new locations! As someone who is a Washington, DC wedding photographer, I often end up at the same place time and time again, so I loved getting to explore a bit with you both. I also had a blast getting to know you and cannot wait to celebrate your Arena Stage wedding next May!
