Last week, I met up with Katie & Will just before dawn to shoot their engagement photos at the iconic Jefferson Memorial. Permit in hand, we were ready to fight the crowds as their session date originally fell during the predicted “peak bloom” of the cherry blossoms. Luckily for us, the bloom date kept getting pushed back further and further, so we had the monument virtually to ourselves. Despite the chilly start, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds to give us a beautiful morning sunrise.
Katie and Will are getting married this October along the coast of Avalon, NJ, a place where Katie and her family visited summer after summer and holds a special place in her heart. These two have actually found it a bit hard to plan for the big day; after attending nearly a dozen or so weddings over the past year (with many more to come before theirs!), they want to find a way to make theirs unique! The honeymoon, however, may be one part they are looking forward to the most. Both are avid travelers and have been all over the world, so they want to find a place they can explore for the first time together. Right now they are leaning towards New Zealand and I told them to GO! as it’s still one of my all-time favorite destinations (South Island and North Island here!). I’m already excited for pictures of their next adventure!
Also, I have to share this funny moment I had while working on these photos. As you’ll see below, Katie and Will look absolutely phenomenal for their engagement photos. I was obsessed with Will’s chic navy suit and Katie’s elegant blue wrap dress. About halfway through the morning, I commented about how they reminded me of Princess Kate & Prince William because they were wearing something similar in their engagement photos a few years ago (see, classics are always in style!). Anywho, I get home and am editing their photos and was just totally crushing on how pretty Katie’s dress was when it hit me: Katie & Will…. Kate & William… How did I not realize that when I was talking about it at their session!?! Totally random, but I thought it was a funny coincidence!
