Kathleen & Tyler’s sunrise engagement session on the Georgetown Canal was one of those rare June days that is free of any humidity, yet also free of any chance of rain. It was so cool that morning, in fact, that I showed up in jeans and a sweater! At one point I was actually worried Kathleen might be too cold! But as the sun popped out, we had an absolutely perfect morning. We explored the canal, waterfront, and townhomes that the Georgetown area of Washington, DC is so famous for. The streets were empty, feeling like we had the whole city to ourselves — one of the many perks of sunrise!

Kathleen and Tyler have known one another since middle school. They both grew up and attended the same schools in Virginia. While they weren’t friends until high school, they got to know one another well over the years as Tyler was close with Kathleen’s twin brother. So close, in fact, that after college they actually moved in with one another. This is when Kathleen and Tyler started dating — with her brother’s blessing, of course :)

This past March, Tyler asked Kathleen to join him for dinner at Fiola Mare — after all, he had to find a way to get Kathleen dressed up in the middle of winter! Kathleen said she initially suspected that might be the time he was going to propose since he had it on their calendar forever, but then changed her mind when she realized everyone she loved was out of town. They walked along the waterfront, where Tyler ultimately proposed and had a friend hiding to capture it all on film. Turns out that Kathleen’s friends and family went to great lengths to make her THINK they were out of town, but in reality, they were all waiting to celebrate with them!

I cannot wait to celebrate with these two this January at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC!
