Black Tie Congressional Country Club Wedding

Emily and Patrick’s black tie Congressional Country Club wedding  was held on an unseasonably warm day late in September. There had been a hint of fall in the air in the preceding weeks, but a mini heat wave swept through the DMV leaving these two with weather that was more reminiscent of a summer wedding in Washington, DC. Luckily, Congo has a stunning sun room that allowed us to stay inside for their first look and initial portraits before heading outside! And things cooled down quite a bit for their outdoor ceremony, complete with a stunning sunset that literally spilled out of the clouds that slowly filled the sky. 

Like most couples, Emily and Patrick’s wedding day marked a new chapter in their lives. They weren’t just starting a new marriage, they were finally settling into their lives after a crazy year. Emily had been living in Philly, completing her orthopedic residency while Patrick was in Pittsburgh for work. He was getting ready to start graduate school for his MBA, so these two were prepared for 2 years of long distance marriage after saying, “I do”. Fate, as it does, stepped in and had other plans in store for this sweet couple. The hospital Emily was working at went bankrupt, so she found herself with an opportunity to move to Pittsburgh, which, of course, was everything she had been dreaming of. It did, however, mean a new job and new home just weeks before their big day! 

In spite of all the stress from their major transition, these two were full of nothing but joy throughout the wedding day! Patrick even let me take them out of their cocktail hour to the 18th hole for some gorgeous sunset photos… in less than 15 minutes :) The result? My favorite pictures of the day!
