Ana and Mickey live in New York City, so it was only fitting to capture their engagement session at the iconic Central Park. Mickey proposed to Ana earlier this summer at the Bow Bridge, so we incorporated that, along with the beautiful Bethesda Terrace for stunning session. It had been many years since I had the chance to photograph a couple in Central Park, so I was excited to return to the city with these two and explore everything it had to offer — which, thankfully for us, included many, many adorable dogs that day!
As we were planning for the day of the shoot, we explored the option of sunrise vs. sunset. If you’ve been following my blog for any time, you know I am a HUGE proponent of sunrise and will pretty much only shoot at some of the most famous sites in DC at that time. But, seeing as the shoot was taking place in January, I was a little hesitant about just how cold it might be in the early morning light. After a bit of research, we took a chance on sunset and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I’m not sure if we can “thank” COVID for anything, but it definitely led to an emptier park than usual for a Friday evening, making it easier to feel like we had the place to ourselves (and those sweet little pups I mentioned!).
Throughout planning, we also went back and forth about outfits and I could not love more what Ana and Mickey ultimately selected for the shoot. The juxtaposition of their chic, sophisticated day-look paired perfectly against the flowy, elegant evening gown for their second look. Ana was complimented on both options pretty much endlessly, so I think it’s safe to say she made some fantastic choices!
While these two may currently live and work in NYC, they will be getting married in the spring of 2022 at District Winery in Washington, DC! I could not be more excited to celebrate with them in what I hope to be a mask-free season of all our lives!
